Abstract

The study was aimed at determining the structure and differences in specific conative variables of male and female athletes practicing the shooting sport.

In order to determine differences in manifest and latent specific conative spaces, 63 male and female respondents aged 14-17 years were examined. The sample can be considered representative of athletes of this age group. The young shooters were tested to assess the following situation, or sport-specific, variables: Sport Competition Anxiety (SCAT), Athletic Coping Skills Inventory (ACSI), the Rosenberg Global Self-Esteem Scale (GSE), Sport Confidence Inventory (SCI), Sport Motivation Scale (SMS), Athlete Satisfaction Questionnaire (ASQ).

All the data obtained from this study were processed at the Multidisciplinary Research Center, Faculty of Sport and Physical Education, University of Pristina, through the DRSOFT system of data processing software programs developed by Popovic, D. (1980), (1993) and Momirovic, K. & Popovic , D. (2003).

In order to determine differences between the groups, canonical discriminant analysis was employed.

The results of discriminant analysis of specific conative variables show that athletes have significant gender-related differences. The canonical correlation coefficient (Con.cor.) is .76. The significance of the tested discrimination using Wilks’s test and Bartlett’s chi test with 21 degrees of freedom (DF = 21) indicates high significant differences between the groups of athletes because Sig. = .00 and the result of chi = 43.73.
